With 15 years of service in the U.S. Army and years of experience in the financial services industry, I know how to solve problems we face from too many years of tax-and-spend habits benefiting many special interests, but not you. Let's trim government to its core functions with a structural audit exposing how tax dollars are being used.
LIST OF ISSUES
Stay Within County Budget
Certain public functions that El Paso County now handles actually belong in the private sector. The Deck Plaza, for instance, will be an entertainment attraction. If it manifests to benefit developers far more than any of us taxpayers, developers should pay for it. Transparency and accountability are vital to the responsible use of taxpayer funds, which are hard-earned and therefore very limited. We cannot allow El Paso County to continue spending money it does not have.
Housing Matters
Regarding property tax, let's begin to solve this problem by totally removing homes from the calculation. Why? No one should be at risk of losing their home to a property tax resulting from artificially inflated appraisals that grossly exceed fair market housing values. After totally removing homes from the property tax discussion, we public servants can do our jobs to creatively replace this revenue with sources that are much more fair to the hardest working, most responsible El Paso residents, homeowners paying off mortgages.
Tax Revenue & Usage
If we understand how tax revenue is generated and how it is to be spent, we can better serve the public by ensuring there are no tax increases and eliminating non-voter-approved issuance of debt. I am adamantly opposed to the issuance of Certificates of Obligation, which have funded expenses unknown to voters. I will fight harder for taxpayers to protect our hard-earned value.
County Roads & Infrastructure
El Paso's economy depends on serviceable roads in our neighborhoods and throughout the County. I will prioritize maintenance to quickly repair El Paso County roads and other County infrastructure. We will use the funds meant for regularly scheduled maintenance ONLY for that. Fiscal transparency and accountability are keys to successful maintenance of El Paso County infrastructure.
Environment
God has abundantly blessed Texas with natural resources, energy, land, border culture and a dynamic lifestyle attracting people from all over the world. It is our responsibility to protect Texas resources for generations to come. Environmental health must remain at the forefront of our consciousness. Let's protect El Paso resources.
